U11B Netball v Craigclowan

After a full squad warmup, the As and Bs separated and were in high spirits ahead of todays game. With the sound of the first whistle, Cargilfield flew out of the blocks with some really short sharp passing creating a chance straight away within the first minute. Unfortunately, this rolled around the rim and out of play. Craigclowan then had their opportunity to have the ball and with some great defending by Livia in the middle with support from Isla and Freya, we closed their space down and forced a turnover. Back in the hands of Cargilfield, again the positive attitude showed with the short sharp passing into space and movement off the ball, the ball was back in the D with Rosanna and Alice passing the ball around to get as close to a scoring opportunity as they could. Alice then has her shot and scores. Immediately from the centre pass, Craigclowan dropped the ball and Cargilfield pounced onto it. The ball was again moved quickly up the court and another scoring opportunity was taken. Again, by Alice. As the quarter started to draw to a close, Craigclowan had an opportunity within out D but with some great defending by Praise and Clara, the ball was slapped away into Islas hands and the ball transferred quickly up the court and Alice scored her third of the opening quarter. After a positive chat and a couple of changes, we set about the second quarter and got stuck in immediately. With Jemima and Thalia coming on, they were energetic and the ball was shipped into space and more opportunities were created. Unfortunately, we could only score one of them within the 3 minutes that had been played. As the second quarter went on, we started to get a bit sloppy with our passing and went back to what we didn’t want to do and started lobbing the ball into a bunch of players and hoping for the best. This lead to the game becoming a bit scrappy and the pressure that Cargilfield was creating originally slowly became undone. As we got closer to half time, we managed to get the ball into the D and we scored another. 5-0 Half Time.

As we got into the second half, it was a similar story to the second quarter and passes weren’t accurate and ended up on the floor most of the time and we were making it difficult for ourselves. Saying that, we still managed to get the ball into some space but having to work very hard to find it as we stopped running and dodging our defenders. When we did eventually find the space and passes were accurate, we managed to score another 2 in this quarter. Going into the final quarter with some frustrated girls, they set out like they did in the first quarter and wanted to prove a point and score more. The accurate passing came back. The girls were running into space. Losing defenders easily. We managed to get the ball away and up the court with ease and into scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, as tiredness started to kick in, our shots were a bit inaccurate and we only managed to score twice. With some great spirit, Craigclowan never gave up and they returned a great goal from their goal shooter. Final Score 9-1.
