Lions

It was a cold but bright afternoon for the matches against Belhaven. We were forewarned that playing first was Belhaven’s A team so we knew we were in for some tough competition. Despite some fabulous jumping to intercept from Agus, Anastasia and Georgia worked hard to defend the goal; Belhaven scored once in this first quarter. The main problem with the High 5 version of netball is that the rotations mean some forget what position they are and where they are allowed to go. These misjudgments meant that some of our defence weren’t where they were meant to be. However, fortunately it did not cost us and although we didn’t score, neither did Belhaven. The third quarter stepped up a gear whereby Polly made a fabulous interception with Izzy showing skills as a great attacker. Maria found herself defending the goal with some precision and Isobel got stuck in to reclaim the ball. We needed to get better at finding spaces but we managed to score our first goal (albeit Belhaven scored another). The final quarter was the best of the game; it all came together and Cargilfield suddenly seemed to click. Georgia, supported by Minty, scored three goals in quick succession, with Belhaven having to work hard. Unfortunately, Anastasia and Izzy had their work cut out as Belhaven also scored a further three. I reckon had we played a little longer, we could have equalized if not won. A superb game, Lions! Well done!

Tigers

The temperature was dropping and many of the players on both sides were feeling the cold. Serena was our centre and was constantly moving, ready to receive the ball. Imaan and Eleora made a fine partnership and with two goals each in the first 6 minutes, I think Belhaven suddenly realised what a challenge they had on their hands. The second quarter meant that Charlotte and Serena were now our shooters and once again, highlighted how a team can work together. Along with Emilie as centre, Serena and Charlotte spotted each other and seemed to easily find spaces; a further three goals were scored. There was no doubt there was a buzz from Cargilfield and going into the third quarter, it was clear we were feeling good about our end prospects. Jed came into her own as GA and despite a bit of giggling whilst trying to shoot, both her and Emilie scored one apiece. Sadly the final quarter didn’t let up for Belhaven. With Thandie and Eleora at the helm, Belhaven really struggled. Five more goals for Cargilfield meant it ended as a confident win.
