A terrific contest!

U11 Netball v Cramond Primary School

Win 16-14

The last match of the season was set to be a good one, with Rosanna at the helm, using her assertive approach to create a dynamic team. It was a closely fought game, with some superb play on both sides.

The first quarter saw Rosanna as centre and she set off at quite a pace, being wonderfully vocal and leaping high to get the ball. Thalia and Florence made a solid double act, using speed and accuracy to pass to one another. Alice and Lily took a little while to get into their stride, but Lily made some good interceptions, blocking the ball when Cramond Primary didn’t expect it. The first 8 minutes ended 5 to Cramond and 4 to Cargilfield.

The second quarter began and it was clear that we were starting to work as a team. Lotte fought hard for the ball as WA and passed quickly to Rosanna (centre) who anticipated Thalia to be by the goal. A couple of tactics (of using the goal post as a “person”) to get the ball back in court and where we wanted it had Cramond Primary fooled somewhat. It worked! Cramond total 7 and Cargilfield total 7 at half time.

It was in the third quarter that we really took off. Rosanna and Clara H made a fantastic shooting duo, not least because Rosanna offered support and encouraged Clara to score – and she did! Thalia was a feisty centre, and Clara B and Lily worked hard to get the ball away from Cramond’s goal. A little more work on defence tactics would have added further pressure to the opponents, but luckily it was not needed. Cargilfield 14 and Cramond 12.

Our final quarter saw Isla take up the reins of GK. She watched the ball and anticipated it carefully, backed up by Lotte as WD and Florence as GD. Thalia and Rosanna worked well together, communicating effectively. Clara H was centre and I think felt a little out of her comfort zone at times. However, she tried hard and together the Cargilfield team came out on top.

It was a pleasure umpiring and seeing such fantastic team work; well done, everyone!
