2nd XI vs Strathallan
Won by 69 runs
It was a glorious day for cricket with the sun splitting the skies. The 2nd XI where is great spirits quietly confident after a very solid performance against Loretto last week. William was Captaining the team and after an inspiring team talk we where ready.
William won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the innings were Harry and James. Harry showed great form from the start, scoring quickly, while James displayed elegant strokes but struggled to find the gaps in the field. Unfortunately, James misjudged a delivery and was dismissed. Wilfred joined Harry at the crease and also began scoring runs freely. The duo formed a formidable partnership, exerting pressure on the Strathallan team with aggressive play and big hits. They both retired after making impressive 27 and 20 runs respectively. Tristan and Leo contributed a few runs each before Monty and Maxi built another solid partnership, adding 30 runs between them. With two overs remaining, Theo came in and swiftly scored a six. We finished on 121 runs.
The question was: could we defend our total of 121? The pressure was squarely on our bowlers. Senuka spearheaded our attack, bowling with accurately and denying the batsmen any scoring opportunities. Mack Strang followed suit, impressively swinging the ball to keep the opposition on their toes. Although Harry's pace and aggression were commendable, wickets where hard to find as Strathallan stubbornly held their ground.
We needed a breakthrough, which came with Wilfred's pace, followed by Leo maintaining the pressure with a solid spell. Maxi seized the opportunity to claim the second wicket, swiftly followed by James. But it was Tristan who provided the spark we desperately needed. With only a few overs left, Tristan strode to his mark. His first delivery was lightning-fast, swinging viciously and crashing into the stumps. The second, a cunning slower ball, was expertly spooned to covers and well caught by Monty.
Amidst whispers of doubt, Tristan stood ready for his third delivery. With determination in his eyes, he unleashed another lightening fast delivery that found its mark, shattering the stumps once again. A hat-trick, against all odds! It was a moment of brilliance!!!
We bowled out the final overs reducing Strathallan to 51 winning comfortable.
Well played boys.
MOM – Tristan Hay – Not only for his hat trick, but excellent fielding and being positive and supportive to all his team mates.
