U11 Cricket - Edinburgh Academy Tournament

Lost, Drew, Lost

Edinburgh Academy hosted Stewart's Mellville College, George Herriot's and us for a round robin T10 tournament, where each player could only bowl one over per match and batters were limited to 15 balls apiece.

Having lost toss against George Herriot's, the boys were put in to bat. We batted a little tentatively but build up momentum ending on a total of 55 runs for the 10 overs with a loss of only 2 wickets. Jamie hit a boundary and Wilf hit a magnificent six. The boys put in a determined effort to defend the total, which they came close to doing as the opposition reached the target with only 2 balls to spare - our fielding was a little costlier than it needed to be, which was probably the difference.

In the second match, the boys took on Stewart's Melville, winning the toss and electing to chase the score this time. Arthur and Geordie had the most economical overs in this match and Jamie managed to pick up two wickets in his six balls. Wilf, Johnny and Geordie also picked up a wicket each, leaving us with a target of 62 needed. Arlo and Hamish had the best innings, both retiring on 17 and 14 runs respectively. Arlo hit two fours. 7 runs were needed off the last over but the boys could only manage 6, resulting in a draw.

The final match proved to be the toughest. We put Edinburgh Academy in to bat first, and after Arlo bowled their opening batsman, their next four batsmen managed to string together some good shots combined with great running between the wickets. Geordie and Johnnie had the most economical overs, each conceding 4 runs. Wilf was the only bowler to take a wicket - caught and bowled. The hosts set us a target of 79 for the win. The quality of their bowling was unprecedented and our boys struggled to come to terms with the pace and accuracy of the bowling across their squad. wickets fell in the first two balls, then three more in the following two overs. James had the best of the innings, ending not out but having run out of partners.
