Under 12 Girls’ Cricket vs Ardvreck Under 13 Girls
Match Tied
In a teaching career of over 30 years, I cannot remember officiating in a tied cricket match before and so this afternoon’s match in the Perthshire sunshine was quite remarkable.
Cargilfield batted first and some super running between the wickets saw Cargilfield make 64 runs in their 20 overs. The outfield was slow and so there was then need for some aggressively run 1s and 2s. Emily B opened the batting with Athena and they had the score approaching 20 before Athena was bowled for four runs. Emily batted through the first ten overs and retired on 13: as this suggests, scoring was tough. The rest of the team chipped in with Ceci perhaps the strongest batter in the lower order.
The Cargilfield team decided to bowl all its players and so this was a genuine team effort. Emily M, Olivia and Scarlett bowled especially well with Clara producing some exciting leg spin. Livia’s catch at short mid off and two excellent catches behind the stumps from Lottie were perhaps the highlights in the field. It was down to Emily B to bowl the final over, however, with Ardvreck needing two runs to win. Emily took a wicket to bring their last pair together. Ardvreck managed a single off the last ball of the match and the scores were tied. All results were possible right down to the last!
Well done to both teams for an exciting match, played in a lovely spirit. It was noticeable how much each team encouraged their team-mates to get the best out of them.
