U11C Touch Rugby v Fettes
Win 5 - 4
Perfect weather and a perfect match with the boys holding Fettes out just long enough as the whistle sounded. Two 15-minute halves culminated in a nail biting finish as Cargilfield was forced to defend without remorse as Fettes tirelessly attempted to secure a draw after a breakaway try.
Captain and try scorer Basil lad the team to a ferocious start with fast lockdown defence supported by the likes of Munrai and Jock. Freddie and Karim kept the edges under close guard forcing Fettes to ruck through the middle and minimising their offensive output. With the ball in hand Cargilfield took long and impactful strides as Evan ducked and wqeaved his way through defenders to score a brilliant try. Alexander and Daniyal also made great runs through the middle, picking weak points in the opposition and exploiting for leaps and bounds in field gained. George was a standout in the game as he took run after run, wearing down the Fettes defensive line and finally being rewarded with a try as he broke through in the second half.
However, what I was most impressed by was Zachary sportsmanship. A rapid sprint along the wing saw Fettes (even scores 3-3) break through our line in an attempt to get in front however Zachary was quick to turn and chase not giving up so quickly. he reached out in a leap of faith both hands outstretched as the Fettes boy dived and as the dust settled I awarded the touch and told Cargilfield to rush back in defence, but, much to his credit Zach straightway told me that he did not make the touch until after the boy’s dive was completed therefore meaning it was a try! It was impressive not only because of the honesty of the act but because it put Fettes in the lead for the game and was therefore selfless thinking of the spirit of the game instead of winning. Well done Zachary!!
