U10A Rugby v Loretto
Draw 16-16
As the scoreline suggests, today the U10 A side played in a try-fest with their pals from Loretto. Even though there were a lot of tries, the defense from Cargilfield was actually pretty good. We tackled decisively and bravely, often forcing Loretto into multiple phases before they scored. The issue at this age grade is the players can’t ruck or steal the ball from the ground so when a tackle is made, the players must step back and let the attacking team recycle the ball. In this way, it is very hard to win the ball back and very easy for the team in possession to score. I feel the Cargilfield boys made the Loretto boys work harder for their tries. Louis tackled particularly well today, wrapping both legs up in tackle after tackle and earning the MVP award. Evan was also a mighty tackler, as was Faris who also led the try count in attack. James R was captain for the day and led by example putting in some great tackles and marshalling the line from the centre of the pitch. Ludo was effective and always keen to get hold of the ball to run. Arran scored a couple of great tries, one which showed his excellent work-rate off the ball by supporting a break away run through the middle. Hollynd stepped up well and put the opposition under pressure, as did James McC, who also ran in a couple of strong tries. Teddy Bu and Matty swapped over at half time and both played with admirable composure and determination.
