U12A Rugby v Loretto

Won 57-19

An U12 squad, made up of a smattering of U11’s and the reliable group of tourists from the weekend headed to East Lothian to take on Loretto. The boys warmed up well and hit the ground running with an early score from Arlo and a beautiful conversion from Jamie M, which was to be a common theme this afternoon. Loretto quickly got a score back, but the Cargilfield men started to assert themselves on both sides of the ball. The Beckett lads teamed up defensively to nullify the substantial attacking threat of the Loretto backline and when Daniel turned the ball over and fed Oliver, the boys were off again with a great long range score finished by Jamie from short range, after a great break from Tommy. This was a familiar theme, Cargilfield absorbing pressure with some committed defence from the likes of: Monty, Daniel and skipper David. This then transitioned into some fluid attack with two further scores from Jamie and Harry before the half.

The second half began with two quick tries from Loretto, before we tightened up defensively again through hugely tenacious defence from Honour, Hugo and Arthur. This allowed our backline and “inside wing prop” William to make huge inroads into Loretto territory, with Bertie the beneficiary of some terrific handling from Jack and Timo to score a brace of tries. Shortly after, Jamie dotted down for his hat-trick and converted his own score, exiting stage left with 25 points to his name. This led Arlo to have the last word when he converted his own try to finish off the game 57-19. It was wonderful to see this young group play with such freedom and skill, it bodes so well for next year where all this crop of players are available to play and challenge for a spot in the 1^st XV.
