Our final game of an outstanding season for our 2nd XV was a trip to Dollar Academy. On a beautiful day, Arthur won the toss and elected to receive the kick off, Cargilfield showed great skill to go through multiple phases before Oliver ran a fantastic line to open the scoring. Arlo converted, which would prove to be a common theme nailing all 9 kicks from a variety of angles on a massive pitch. We traded blows with Dollar who twice levelled up the scoring in the first half, until the Cargilfield men scored two rapid tries from Blake and Jack to lead going into the half.
The second half was more one sided, perhaps due to the messaging of passing before contact and running straight in attack. This led to an outstanding second half display of attacking rugby, with Bertie both creating one and scoring another, before Salman ran the length of the pitch and Monty got in on the act as well. This was supported by our elder statesman in Mack, Honour and Arthur leading the way defensively to allow this free-flowing rugby to take place.
This is typically a transition point in senior rugby at Cargilfield, but it was lovely to say to this group that I’ll see them next year. Many I hope purely in training, as they will be pushing for the 1st XV in their final year at school. I hope the boys have had a good a year playing, as I have coaching them. That’s the 2nd XV of 2024/25 signing off!
