U11A Rugby v Dollar
Drew 5-5
Our last game of rugby for the season, and the U11 boys enjoyed a thrilling, fast-paced and highly skilled game against Dollar. It was lovely to welcome back Archie and the boys enjoyed playing against each other with plenty of big hits flying in from both sides. It was an even game from the outset with both sides looking to keep the ball alive and pass it from side to side. The tackling was good on the whole and both teams had to work hard for their scores. Some passages of play went on for multiple phases and really tested the strength and fitness of the boys. Both teams competed well at the breakdown and there were some super turn-overs.
Hugo led the side with the sort of determination and courage that we have come to expect from him over the term. He won a high number of rucks, putting in the sometimes-unseen hard work to allow his team to keep possession and score tries. Tommy showed great hands and made some excellent power runs up the pitch. Daniel was well marked yet managed to find space for some great runs. Nick ran and attacked well, also showing good strength and technique to win a counter-ruck at one stage. Magnus showed great hands and once he got revved up enough, he made some super hits. It was fun to watch Harry and his younger brother Teddy play together and at one stage on the same wing they linked up well. Archer showed some good patches of play, weaving in between tacklers and making some good passes. Arran’s restart drop-kicks were great and he ran well breaking a number of tackles, he also took a great catch from a high clearance kick. Ensay was a safe pair of hands in the mid-field, playing with vision and intelligence.
All in all, it was an exciting and enjoyable game for the boys to play in and both teams had fun. The standard of rugby was very high and the game was played in great spirits. Well played, boys.
