U13C Boys’ Hockey v Merchiston
Won 4-1
The thirds played some super hockey today to win a competitive game against Merchiston.
William played an assured and dominant role as centre-back, making countless block tackles and showing his strength with some terrific sweeps to link with his midfield players. Salman, Honour and Max took turns supporting with wing back positions and their tireless work and super tackles kept the Merchiston attack from gaining much momentum. There were moments when they broke through our defense and Monty was certainly tested today – and he was excellent! He made some amazing saves including some really strong kicks out to the midfield where we could counterattack. Monty was also brilliant at communicating with his team, keeping up lots of comments and feedback to his teammates, which was so useful.
Bertie was super in the midfield, running up in attack and sprinting back to help in defence, he scored a couple of good goals too, including a great strike from a penalty hit. Mack made some great tackles and showed huge improvement in a short amount of time. Freddie had the best game today, tackling so well and running the ball out of danger a couple of times. Findlay came so close to scoring and his stoppping and turning with the ball was great, making one particularly amazing first touch to turn past his defender. Blake scored a wonder-goal in the second quarter, taking it from hit-back, dribbling through 4 players before smashing home a decisive hit that rang out from the back boards. Everyone was very impressed and it came so naturally too, it looked like he could do it again and again.
I was really pleased with the way the team passed to each other and worked so hard throughout the game. Well played, boys.
