U12 A Cricket v Loretto

Won by 50 runs

A glorious summer’s afternoon for our first Wednesday fixture and we welcomed Loretto for a 20 over per side fixture.

Having won the toss, Geordie decided to bat and the Cargilfield innings was anchored by Johnny and Lochie who made 24 and 26 (retired) each. Others chipped in around and a score of 129 for 7 looked a reasonable total at tea.

Eight overs into the Loretto innings, this might not have looked enough as Loretto made 62 – 2 off 8 overs before some aggressive bowling removed five wickets in quick succession. Again, Lochie and Johnnie bowled well, each on the edge of a hat trick (and Johnny taking four wickets in total - even breaking the stumps for a fifth time off a no ball).

Everyone chipped in with all the fielders bowling at least one over and some fiery spells from Miguel, Blake and Geordie showing great promise.

Most impressive for me was the team spirit in the field. The boys managed themselves beautifully, encouraging and supporting each other throughout the Loretto innings. There are some very able cricketers here and this bodes well for this (and ultimately for next) season.
