Merchiston Cricket Festival vs Sedbergh & Belhaven
U13A Cricket v Loretto
Our U13 girls started their season with a cricket festival at Merchiston Castle School on Sunday. Olivia lost the toss and Cargilfield were put into bat by Sedbergh on a green early season wicket. Two quick wickets followed which put the girls on the back foot. Up stepped Thalia and Athena, who between them put on 45 for the third wicket. Both batted with patience and poise, building an innings and guiding Cargilfield to a respectable 64.
Our bowling performance was excellent, as was our catching and ground fielding which meant the game was in the balance right until the end. Eventually, Cargilfield lost in the 12th over, after a solid first performance of the season.
Our second game put us against familiar foes Belhaven and again we batted first. Olivia, Thalia and Emily B led the way with the bat as the team posted 93, which showcased the progress throughout the day.
We restricted Belhaven to 63, with some excellent bowling from all our players. A particular well done to Thalia, who was named our player of the day.
Our final game of the first couple of weeks, saw us travel to Loretto on a glorious day. We bowled first and restricted Loretto to 63 off 18 overs. Praise and Emily B were the pick of the bowlers. With the bat, we looked strong with quality hitting from Emily B and Scarlett before Olivia finished off the game in style with a 36 run win.
A great first week or so girls. Well done!
