U11s win Merchiston Super 8s

A fabulous day of cricket!

U11s at the Merchiston Super 8s

Two teams travelled to Merchiston for the annual Super 8s. Cargilfield had an A and a B team and faced each other in the opening game. The A team posted a great score of 63 runs from 8 overs without losing a wicket. Arran was on top form with the bat, scoring 14 runs in two overs. There were strong performances in the B team from Ludo behind the stumps and William with the ball however.

The B team, led by Hugo, came into bat and scored 39 runs but lost 5 wickets meaning 25 runs were deducted from the total. A great catch from Harry and the maiden from Archer were the highlights in the innings. The A team won but there were lots of positives to take for the Bs. In the next game for the B team, they faced a strong Carlton side who had some very tidy and accurate bowlers. Benji bowled 5 dot balls in his over, Teddy and William got a wicket each and runs came from Ludo, Freddie and then Jack at the tail with the winning runs. A fantastic result for the B team!

Meanwhile, the A team were on the other pitch facing the hosts, Merchiston. We won the toss and elected to bat first. There weren’t as many runs scored with the bat in this game with Arran and Raffi scoring a modest 6 runs each but there were quite a few extras in the shape of wides which left us with a total of 52 to defend. Our fielding, however, was very sharp and we didn’t allow Merchiston to get a foothold in the game. Harry was our top wicket taker in the game with 2. Cargilfield won the game by 27 runs.

Following a spot of lunch, the A team faced Carlton in the final game. They fielded and after a slow start thanks to their excellent bowling, we got moving through Tommy who scored 3 boundaries in a row to build our score. We were rather wasteful and off target with our bowling, conceding as many wides in the first 2 overs as Carlton did in their entire innings. Raffi, who took 2 wickets in as many balls in his over. Nick, Daniel, Archer and Teddy were terrific in the field all day and their sharpness in this game, ensured we won this match and the tournament.

The B team were hoping to make it 2 wins out of 3 in their final match against Merchiston and began well with William and Teddy taking 2 wickets each. When batting, Matthew and Freddy got the runs before

Jack and James saw us home with some sensible running between the wickets. A terrific win meant that our B team finished runners-up in the tournament!

Well done to all the boys who were so well captained by Tommy and Hugo but special congratulations to Arran who won batsman of the tournament and Magnus who won fielder of the tournament for his fantastic wicket keeping for the A team including an outstanding caught behind in the game against Carlton. There were a number of other Cargilfield players who came up in the coaches’ discussion which goes to show the strength and depth of the cricket at Cargilfield!
