2nd XI Cricket v Strathallan
Cargilfield 152 – 1
Strathallan 118 – 2
Another glorious afternoon in the sunshine for the 2nd XI. With James captaining the team, we won the toss and batted first. The top order batted sensibly and kept the score ticking with Timothy and james both making scores in the high 20s before being retired. Wilf came in at no.3 and batted most fluently of all, timing the ball well and making 26 not out in quick time. Cameos from Bertie (lbw for 13) and Blake (not out 13) moved things along. Monty came in at no. 6 and ran aggressively between the wickets. 152 runs in 20 overs will always look good in under 13 cricket and achieving this for the loss of only one wicket was impressive.
Given that Cargilfield had a squad of 14 players, our bowling effort saw three players rolling on and off in the field. It also meant that we used 13 different bowlers (I’m not sure that the MCC would necessarily approve) but well done to everyone for their contributions. Blake’s throw to run out the Strath no. 3 was one of the highlights of our fielding display while Honour removed their opener’s middle stump with his first ball.
Strathallan batted well and kept moving towards our total. They only lost two wickets but never looked likely to reach our score. If we were being critical, we might have hoped to reduce the 25 extras that we gave away and taken a few more wickets….but it was an enjoyable team performance with some good cricket on display. Well done everyone.
