1stXI beat Dollar Academy
Cargilfield 163-3 (20 0overs) (J Walker 50 rtd, J Mackenzie 48 rtd)
Dollar 95 all out
There a few more picturesque settings than driving through the sun drenched hills of Clackmanninshire on a glorious Saturday morning and arriving in Dollar! Just like last year, the sun shone and a large group of parents were able to sit back, relax and watch an excellent game of cricket where the 1stXI continued their cricketing odyssey over the past two weeks. Going from one game to the next, weekends also full of cricket, has given them a pretty good idea of what it must be like being a professional cricketer!
We batted first and those who did not bat against Strathallan on Wednesday were given the chance to bat today, so Oliver and Jamie M opened up, but Oliver was soon out bowled without moving his feet, and Jack suffered the same fate after coming in at 3 and scoring 3. This brough in Jamie W to join t’other Jamie and together they batted extremely well, watchful for the occasional straight ball but punishing anything down the legside or in the slot. Jamie W hit very powerfully through the V, hitting 8 fours and a 6 between mid on and mid off, reaching his 50 off 27 balls, and then Jamie M reached a very impressive 48no off 38 balls before he too was retired. In the final few overs, Geordie played some terrific shots through the covers and we ended up on 163 for 3 at the end of our allotted overs. An excellent batting performance!
In reply, Dollar quickly subsided to 39-4 with Hamish opening the bowling and picking up two wickets, Edward taking two sharp catches standing at mid off before coming on to bowl and mopping up the final couple of batsmen. All out for 95 and another convincing win. There were too many extras once again which was disappointing, and it is so important that bowlers make sure they are right on the money from the first ball – with legside wides in operation at the Glenalmond 6s on Sunday, this is so important as we do not want to give the opposition any freebies.
But, we go again tomorrow at Glenalmond which is always one of the highlights of the season, and we have some scores to settle after not performing at the Super 8s last weekend. Well played, boys!
