U11s win Glenalmond 6s

A fabulous day of cricket!

Glenalmond 6s: Under 11 Competition

On a sunny day, there can be few prettier places to play cricket than Glenalmond College. Indeed, as you sit on the boundary edge or stand at square leg, you might expect characters from a Walter Scott novel to wander in.

Our Under 11 squad acquitted themselves very well across the course of a long day involving four matches with squad members having to take it in tours to sit out one of the matches. In winning all four matches, they were victorious on the day to retain the cup for Cargilfield.

Tommy led from the front, captaining the team sensitively. It was no surprise that he was named as one of the players of the day as he scored 113 runs not out across three innings. His three overs cost only 20 runs and his final ball of the day bowled the premier St Mary’s batsman. That he scored ten sixes and eleven fours will give you some idea of the rate at which he scored. Had he not scored 35 in the last two overs against St Mary’s, we might not have won the game.

He was ably supported by his team-mates. Raffi bowled with pace throughout the day and removed the Ardvreck opener with his first ball. Daniel batted admirably against Belhaven, scoring 16 before having to retire with light-headedness. Archer grew in confidence with bat and ball through the day and proved hard to get away – especially bowling five dot balls in the first over against St Mary’s. Harry was equally strong with both bat and ball: taking two wickets for 18 runs across three overs and batting through the innings against Ardvreck. Arran opened the batting against Craigclowan and chipped in elsewhere. His bowling was accurate and reliable and he took a sensational catch off the first ball of the Ardvreck innings. Magnus kept wicket tenaciously across the whole day and, in opening the batting against Ardvreck, he scored 26 not out to lead us to our third victory. Special note should go to Freddie. As a Form 4 boy, this could have been a daunting day and yet he calmed his nerves to bowl reliably throughout. He conceded only one wide in his three overs, giving away only 18 runs through the. His fielding was energetic all day.

Our thanks to Glenalmond for a wonderful day: so well hosted and organised. Happy memories for all of us involved.
