This was a thrilling match that showcased excellent cricket from both sides, culminating in a nail-biting finish.
Cargilfield were sent in to bat and, despite losing early wickets, quickly found momentum thanks to Tommy’s explosive innings—31 runs off just 16 balls before retiring. Hugo contributed a solid 14, while Harry B anchored the latter stages with a composed 16 not out, helping Cargilfield to post a competitive total of 122.
St Mary’s reply began cautiously. At times, our fielders may have underestimated the challenge, but Teddy Bu made an early breakthrough with an LBW, followed shortly by a sharp caught-and-bowled from Arran. The momentum seemed to shift after a fantastic 23-run innings from Henry, which was brought to an end by a brilliant piece of fielding from Nick at fine leg, executing a crucial run out.
With 20 runs needed off the final two overs, the tension was palpable. St Mary’s scrambled to keep the scoreboard ticking with quick singles and byes, but Ludo’s pinpoint underarm throws proved decisive, running out two tailenders in dramatic fashion. The visitors were left ruing missed opportunities, while the home side breathed a sigh of relief after a match that nearly slipped away.
Special mention goes to Tommy, who captained the team with calm authority and led by example with the bat. However, the Player of the Match award went to Harry B for his all-round contribution—16 not out, a key wicket, and an impressively economical bowling spell.
A fantastic team effort and a match to remember!
