2nd XI Cricket vs St Mary’s
Cargilfield 172 for 5
St Mary’s 69 for 5
Another glorious setting, this time with views of the Eildon hills around Melrose and another long afternoon of unbroken sunshine made for a beautiful 2nd team match in the borders.
Both teams played with reduced numbers which made for a more dynamic encounter with all players heavily involved and having the chance to bat and bowl at greater length.
The highlight of Cargilfield’s performance was Arthur’s unbeaten 53 – his first half century – which saw him timing the ball beautifully to score a string of boundaries including two sixes. Timothy, Monty and Theo all chipped in with scores in the 20s to set a challenging total of 172 off 20 overs.
St Mary’s replied steadily but struggled to score at the same rate and a string of wickets also halted their progress. Max took two wickets with David and Salman taking one apiece. Timothy’s two victims included a stumping and a catch behind the wicket. Arthur took a catch off his own bowling to complete a man of the match performance.
Well done all on a confident performance and a lovely afternoon’s entertainment.
