2nd XI Cricket vs Belhaven
Cargilfield won by 44 runs
The 2nd XI go into half-term still unbeaten and continuing to play a dynamic brand of cricket. More importantly, the team spirit in amongst this squad of boys is excellent and this afternoon’s game exemplified this with a system of rolling subs for fielding and others standing down to allow team mates to bat.
The stand out performance this afternoon was Bertie’s as he made 50 runs unbeaten, timing the ball beautifully to score seven fours and a six in a pacey innings. With Johnny, Blake, Oliver and Theo chipping in around him, a total of 161 for 7 off 20 over was always going to set a challenging target.
Thirteen different bowlers joined the Cargilfield attach – confirming the depth of talent in this squad – with Johnny intimidating the Belhaven batsmen with his pace, especially when he pitched the ball up. He was perhaps unlucky to take only one wicket. Blake and Honour also deserve a mention as does James who captained sensitively and bowled a few dangerous leg breaks to take two wickets. While his accuracy was inconsistent this afternoon, he as the potential to be a very effective bowler if he keeps working at this.
My final mention goes to Salman whose quick thinking brought about a run out.
Well done all: a very enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine with two teams exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship.
