U11A Cricket v Belhaven
Lost by 5 wickets
With For our final match of the first half of term, the Under-11s travelled down to Belhaven, with the A-team playing a hard-ball match utilising the standard rules. Tommy won the toss and elected to bat first.
Freddie and Teddy opened the batting. They provided a stable start to the innings, busily running singles, until Freddie mistimed a drive which fell gently into mid-on's hands, but not before he had scored 15 runs, which included a couple of great boundaries. Hugo came in next and had a short innings, which included 3 boundaries in 7 balls. Our next few batsmen fell in quick succession to a combination of accurate fast bowling and some off-spin. Archer managed to but put the brakes on the fall of wickets and applied the circumspection that the innings needed. Jack had a strong innings, scoring 21 runs, 20 of which were in 4's. Daniel had a good knock too, scoring 18 off 19 balls. All told, the boys set a total of 143 runs after being bowled out in the 19thover.
Belhaven began their chase by losing a wicket in the third ball of their innings, off the bowling of Nick. This brought in their best batsman, who, once he got his eye in began to crash any bad ball for four or six. Our consistency of line and length wasn't quite there, which allowed for scoring chances on a regular basis, but our fielding was of a good standard. Tommy had the best figures with 13/2 at an economy of 3.25 runs per over. Jack also took two wickets. Arran and Hugo were very economical - bowling a length and line that the batters found harder to score off. We were unable to get the top-scoring batsmen out and Belhaven eventually reached the target in exactly 18.3 overs (we were bowled out at 18.3 too) as we had and then scored the winning runs on the next ball.
Two well-matched teams and a great game. Well done to all the boys.
