Despite some wild weather – sunshine, wind, rain, and back to sun again – the Cargilfield U11 Mixed team put in a fantastic all-round performance to narrowly defeat Fettes in a thrilling contest.

We started the match in the field and showed great energy and teamwork. A brilliant catch by Kirsty gave us an early boost, while Isobel bowled beautifully, keeping the batters guessing. Zachary was alert and accurate in the field, making some sharp throws to stop runs, and he teamed up well with Basil as a bowling pair – even picking up a key wicket between them. Freddie added to the pressure with some superb bowling of his own, keeping things tight and disciplined.

Fettes finished their innings with a total of 270, setting us a good challenge.

When it came time to bat, our team responded with smart decision-making and excellent communication. Manrai and Zachary got us off to a great start, calling confidently and running well between the wickets. Jock and Karim continued the momentum, showing real intent and chasing every opportunity. Sophia and Niamh batted bravely, taking some well-judged risks that added important runs to the total.

In the closing stages, Izzy, Kirsty, Clara, and Isobel all batted with purpose and intelligence. Their thoughtful shot selection – including strategic sweeps and well-placed hits – brought in a flurry of late runs and kept the pressure firmly on Fettes.

In the end, Cargilfield finished on 272, winning the match by just 2 runs. A fantastic team performance in tough conditions – full of spirit, teamwork, and smart cricket. Well done to everyone involved!
