Form 6 at Merchiston Science Morning

Form 6 at Merchiston Science Morning

Lots of thrills, spills and explosions!

Form 6 went to Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh this morning to experience life in their science and technology departments.

The children made a computer game using Scratch; took part in some interesting chemistry experiments and witnessed what happens when you add jelly babies to a test tube full of heated chemicals! They finished their morning making a key ring in Design Technology using the manufacturing process of injection moulding.

They also learned about light in Physics and made pinhole cameras, then used soldering irons to build electronic musical instruments by soldering different resistors to a circuit board before finishing with a wonderful treat in the Biology department where they met many of the Merchiston “pets”, of the slimy and scaly variety!

As always, the Merchiston staff were extremely enthusiastic with our children and gave them a real flavour of the fantastic departments they have there. Our thanks also the senior boys who ran many of the workshops themselves during the morning and who were great ambassadors for the school.
