Headmaster's Welcome

It is a great privilege to be Headmaster of Cargilfield, and a pleasure to welcome you to our wonderful school.

For more than 150 years, Cargilfield’s values and traditions have remained at the heart of school life. Today, we combine that proud heritage with a forward-looking education that prepares children for an ever-changing world. In our unique setting between the city and the sea, children have the time and space to enjoy childhood—exploring the outdoors, embracing new experiences and developing the character and confidence to thrive.

Set within acres of beautiful grounds, Cargilfield offers exceptional facilities, including inspiring teaching spaces, a dedicated sports hall, extensive games pitches, excellent music, artand drama facilities and modern, purpose-built Nursery and Pre-Prep spaces. As a day and boarding school, we have a strong family ethos and a close-knit community in which every child is known, valued and supported.

As a parent myself, I understand the trust you place in us when choosing a school for your child. We take that responsibility extremely seriously. Our outstanding pastoral care is woven through every aspect of school life and is proactive rather than reactive. Every member of staff, whatever their role, plays a part in ensuring that our pupils feel safe, happy and nurtured.

We are proud of our commitment to excellence in all its forms. Our pupils achieve impressive results and win scholarships across a wide range of disciplines to some of the country’s leading senior schools. However, a Cargilfield education extends far beyond academic achievement. Through sport, music, drama, creativity, outdoor adventure and an exceptional breadth of activities, every child is encouraged to explore new interests, discover their individual strengths and find their own spark.

We believe that every child has immeasurable potential. Our role is to recognise, nurture and develop it. Through a rich and varied education, we help our pupils become curious, resilient, courageous and ambitious young people, equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to embrace new challenges with confidence.

Our aim is for every child to leave Cargilfield with the social, emotional and academic foundations they need to flourish—not only at senior school, but throughout their lives. We want them to step forward as kind, capable and self-assured individuals, ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

I would be delighted to welcome you to Cargilfield in person, to show you around our school and, most importantly, to introduce you to our remarkable pupils. We are immensely proud of the warmth, energy and sense of belonging that make Cargilfield so special, and I hope you will come and experience it for yourself.

Colin MacIntosh, Headmaster
