At the beginning of the week, P1 began finding out a little more about life 150 years ago as part of their commemoration of Cargilfield's 150th anniversary. We visited 'Heart of Newhaven' for a morning in a Victorian school and home. We were greeted at the entrance by a forbidding-looking member of staff in full costume who stated clearly that "children should be seen and not heard" and that set the tone for the next hour! The children put on typical Victorian clothes and learned the '3Rs' in traditional Victorian style. When the bell rang, they were allowed to go 'home' which was another section of the school which had been fitted with artefacts of the time, which they investigated thoroughly. Everyone had a fascinating visit and decided that on balance, things are better in 2023!
