It has been a long couple of weeks for the 1stXV with the tour down south and then welcoming Sedbergh up to Cargilfield at the end of last week. We have been tested against the best, and have not been found wanting with the boys digging deep in to the well and producing some terrific team performances; as a coach, you cannot ask for much more, and to see these boys working so hard for each other and playing some really attractive and clinical rugby against some physical sides (and never taking a backward step) has been a joy to watch.
Today on what was the first cold November day of the term, we welcomed Loretto to what was a bit of a quagmire it has to be said! They were a more than useful outfit having defeated us at the Ardvreck 7s and came to us having had an excellent season. However, despite the conditions, the boys played some terrific rugby in the conditions, carrying the ball well, rucking at speed and scoring some wonderful tries. Harry kept the whole side going forwards by playing the game at pace, but once again, the team excellent and worked so well together; Will moved in to the centre with Ramsay still out injured, and without our 'tackler' Jack today, Tom and Edward stepped up and both had fine games. We did give away a couple of soft tries down the blindside which was disappointing, but to score over 50 points again, and show such a level of skill and commitment in what were pretty atrocious conditions shows how far this group of boys have come over the course of the season. We still have three big challenges ahead, but I know that the team are up for them. Well played indeed today!
