The 1sthockey girls had their first outing of the season against Craigclowan today. It almost felt like summer hockey with the sun shining down and the sky clear. We started well with Saphira slotting in 2 goals very quickly. The pressure was firmly fixed in the Craigclowan defensive end for most of the first half, and another goal from Saphira came from a short corer. The opposition battled hard to get back in the game but Sophie and Izzy ran through them, and they struggled to defend their 3D skills. Izzy was next to find the net with an lovely top corner shot.
With the score at 5-0 at half time, we could relax a bit and enjoy the game. We maybe relaxed a bit too much as Craigclowan powered down the pitch and were keen to score but luckily Caitlin was on top form and she made an excellent save to keep a clean sheet. Emma and Clemmie were tested a bit more in the second half but they linked well and kept the ball away from the circle and managed to get it up time after time to our midfield. Our marking is something we need to work on and luckily we weren’t pressed too hard here but this is something we will be working on in the coming sessions. Flora worked particularly hard in midfield and quietly but accurately fed some great balls through for our attack. Laura scored her first goal of the season from a lovely ball through from Sophie, and it was great to see her so composed on the ball. Three further goals followed from Saphira (2) and Sophie to see the match finish a comfortable 10-0.
