2ndXV lost to Loretto 1stXV

A tough encounter

On a blustery autumnal afternoon our 2nd XV headed east to take on Loretto’s 1st XV. After a brief warm up, the boys won the toss and played with the wind for the first half. After a great kick off, Loretto moved the ball effectively to score the first try of the match. Sustained pressure from the Cargilfield men continued, but they sadly couldn’t come away with points. Ultimately, this was to be the tale of the first half with Cargilfield keeping the ball for a number of phases without lacking the punch to get over the line. 32-0 at the break, this did not reflect the effort and play of the boys many of whom had not tested themselves in this environment before.

The second half was a much more even affair, the Barnton boys in control for large parts of the second half and left a few tries out there, which frustrated them. That being said, Zain scored one of the tries of the season. Slick handling and lightening quick ruck ball left Zain with 60m to go, but he jinked his way through the Loretto defence to score. A good effort by the 2nd XV and we will continue to look for more challenging fixtures.

Final Score: Loretto 44 – Cargilfield 7
