4thXI in very exciting first match!

Oh so close....!

On a beautiful day at Fettes the 4th XI opened their season with a thrilling game, it was a baptism of fire with many playing their first cricket for the school. A solid opening partnership from Alex and Callum set the platform for Flora and Catherine to blast a 30 partnership with Flora hitting back to back fours to finish.

More good batting followed from the team and it was particularly pleasing to see Monty guide our German overseas superstars picking up some vital runs in the process setting Fettes 292 to win. Our bowling performance started superbly and was backed up with some outstanding fielding from Zac and Catherine who saved multiple boundaries to keep the side in the game. It meant the game went down to the final over where Fettes needed 9 to win. They scraped over the line by one run despite Callum hitting the stumps off the penultimate ball but the bails sadly didn’t fall.

A great first game of the season and it was great to see a game played in such a good spirit.
