We played two matches against the Fettes U10As and U11Bs. The first game against the U10A team was a low scoring affair thanks to both defenses being quite resilient. We had much of the possession and had lots of chances but Fettes were very good at blocking the ball. We eventually broke the deadlock when Jessica’s shot fortuitously clipped off a defender’s stick and went into the corner but on the balance of play, we deserved it. Isobel worked hard up front and almost scored but needs to work on getting her feet in the correct position. Athena proved that she could be a terrific defender in the future after her second half performance at the back. Her distribution was good and she positioned herself well making her player of the match in this game.
In the second game, Tunrayo was everywhere and played a terrific role in midfield. She led the team by example by blocking shots and looking to pass the ball wide. Rowan also worked hard at putting in some blocks when Fettes threatened to advance up the pitch. At half time it was 0-0 and we stressed the need to get the ball wide to Amalia. In the second half, the girls were amazing and responded well. Right from the start, Tunrayo played a terrific ball to Amalia who found lots of space and drove at the opposition goal. Her shot went just wide but she got more chances and Athena finished off an excellent move through Amalia on the right to get the first goal. We scored again quickly thanks to Amalia and even though Fettes managed to get one back after Bea made a great block, Amalia was the provider for our 3rd with another strong run down the right wing. Dulcie played on the left and did everything well by turning to stay strong on the ball and looked to pass back to her supporting midfield players. Once again, Jessica’s work rate was commendable and she proved to be a very important player in this team. Bea didn’t have much to do thanks to our outfield players working hard and got very cold but did well when called upon. Player of the match was Amalia for setting up all 3 goals.
Well played, girls; these were two tough and competitive fixtures but you raised your game when needed and reaped the reward with two terrific wins! What a team!
