Major Maths Success at this year’s Junior Maths Challenge!

Cargilfield has won an impressive 25 awards in the recent UK wide Junior Maths Challenge for 11-14 year olds, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust.

Taken by some children in Forms 6, 7 and 8 back in April, they achieved 25 certificates which is our best haul ever with 5x Gold, 8x Silver and 12x Bronze awards. A fabulous achievement.

Daniel and Joseph came joint top, followed by James and Mungo who were joint second, and then Glen in third. The five Gold winners did well enough to qualify for the Junior Kangaroo bonus round. (Only the top 10,000 were invited to sit a follow-on competition.) The Junior Maths Challenge was taken by approximately 250,000 pupils. It involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is aimed at pupils from S2 and below. 

Top performers go on to compete in either the Olympiad (over 106 marks) or Kangaroo competition. 

The Kangaroo is taken by several thousand pupils across the UK.
