U13D Hockey beat Merchiston

A super team effort, boys!

U13D vs Merchiston

Won 4-1

It was a cold afternoon at Merchiston when the U13D’s started. There was a lot of pressure on the boys as the other teams had won. Captain for the day George Ghynoweth-Smith, got the boys ready with a quick fire warm up and then straight into the match.

From the start the team pressured Merchiston and had them on the back foot. The pressure came from the front with Jamie, Senuka and Joseph tackling and intercepting. Slick passing saw the ball moved to the wings where Maxi made great strides and attacked across the D. Unfortunately for us the Merchiston goalie was in inspired form and somehow saved everything.

Merchiston did manage to hit us in the break from time to time. When they did Ian Moir and George were rock solid in defence not missing a tackle and then distributing the ball nicely to put us on the front foot. Thankfully as the 1st 10minute period was drawing to an end we scored.

The game continued in a similar fashion throughout the 2nd period with Cargi pressurising all over the pitch. The Merchiston goalie again could not be beaten with save after save. Suddenly they broke through on goal but Hugh MacKenzie came to our rescue with a few inspired saves of his own. Eventually we finished off a good move where Jamie Prince put us 2-0 up. Merchiston suddenly put their best move of the day together against the run of play and sudden pulled 1 back. This led to the play of the day, George and Ian closed down an attack, played it quickly through the middle before moving it out wide before the ball arriving in the D and Jamie scoring again.

The 3rd period came and went with Cargi continuing to pressure Mechiston with Senuka, Jamie, Joseph and Maxi terrorising the Merchiston defence so much so one of their player fouled Senuka and sent off. This killed the game off, and we ran out 4-1 winners. It could and should have been more.

Merchiston were gracious in defeat and lovely hosts walking us up for match tea.

Player of the match – Jamie Prince as well as “David De Gea” the Merchiston Goalie.
