IMG 1915

The Under-11B boys hosted the Loretto team for a soft ball match of three pairs on the Harper Gow astro on Wednesday. This was the boys first match of the season and a chance to see if all their work in nets would pay off.

The visitors elected to field first and put us into bat. Magnus and Charlie batted first, making a total of 34 runs in their six overs without losing a wicket. The small size of the astro meant that the boys had to run every run as no fours or sixes were awarded on the day. Monty and George then also posted a total of and they didn't lose a wicket either, making good calls on when to run and stay put. Finally, Seb and Benji scored a total of 33 runs, so all three pairs contributed quite equally to the team total, which amounted to 101 runs.

During Loretto's innings, they managed some great shots but their scoring was pegged back by wickets throughout their innings - 7 in total. Charlie was the best bowler on the day, challenging the stumps throughout his 3 overs and taking two wickets. The moment of the match was a runout by Monty from square-leg, where he had only a view of a single stump and managed to hit it before the batsman could return to the safety of the crease. Loretto ended on 65 runs, giving Cargilfield the win by 36 runs

Well done to all the boys and our gratitude to our guests for travelling up from Musselburgh to play us.
