U9As narrowly lose to Fettes

A good first outing of the term

On a blustery September day at Fettes our U9's tasted their first competitive rugby for Cargilfield. Our boys were brimming with excitement and put this enthusiasm to good use scoring first through Jonah, which would become a familiar theme as the game went on.

As the half carried on Fettes began to take the upper hand and after some gallant defence from Alex, Charles and Harry took the lead at the half by four tries to three.

The second half got underway in much the same fashion with another two Fettes tries giving them a commanding lead.  After some encouraging words from parents, staff and players the boys picked up the intensity of their defence with an outstanding tackle from Archie, with some delicate passing from Monty and aggressive running from Wilfred we managed to get back into the game at seven tries each.

Sadly, Fettes found their second wind, running out 9-7 winners in the closing stages. Lots to improve on but a really positive first outing for the boys, full of passion and resilience!
