Form 8 at Torness Power Station

Form 8 at Torness Power Station

A fascinating trip!

Form 8 spent the day at Torness Power Station today. We spoke to some of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary tasked with protecting the uranium, and then had a tour around the power plant. We saw the Turbine and Reactor Halls, as well as the Control Room. The staff spoke about the benefits of nuclear power compared to fossil fuels and explained how the nuclear fission process produced electricity.

During the afternoon, the pupils were split into teams and, to demonstrate the importance of teamwork, had to design a track which would keep a marble rolling for the maximum amount of time. Well done to the winning team! Will Form 7 beat their time of 10 seconds when they visit next week?
