P1 had beautiful weather for their visit to the Royal Highland Show this week, and there was a great buzz of excitement around as it was the first show for a couple of years. The children saw all kinds of varieties of poultry, sheep, goats and cattle and were encouraged to touch the animals. They watched some showjumping from very close up and realised how enormous the jumps are. They tried to work out the criteria for success for the prize animals who were awarded rosettes by some very picky judges. There was a fantastic beekeeping experience involving making candles and taste testing honey as well as cuddling a giant bee. Lots of the children also managed to watch some stunt bike riders and sat in a Chinook helicopter too. When it all became too exhausting RHET gave the children some horse puzzles and pictures to colour. We had a fantastic day and can't wait to do it all again next year!
