Last weekend, some of the children in Form 7 headed out into the Pentlands to take part in a training course for their Bronze NNAS Navigator award. On the first day, we met in Swanston car park and spent the day learning the key skills to navigate in the hills using 'handrails'. This included being able to estimate distance travelled using both timing and pacing, orientating the map, and recognising common OS map symbols. The next day, we focused on contours, and then continued to practice our navigation and strategy choice. Good luck to all of the pupils for their assessment next week.
