Parents love the ‘feel and ethos’ of this prep on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, which we’re told is undergoing a ‘big push for excellence on all fronts’. Applications are on the up; and with such a small number of pupils per class - 18 max - availability is limited. Flexi boarding is an option, and surely popular with parents and pupils is the policy of no homework in the upper years. There’s plenty to occupy students' free time: skiing, climbing and padel are popular, and the school shows real strength in rowing and cricket. Fettes is one popular destination, and the cohort of leavers scored a bumper crop of 31 scholarships to senior institutions - an impressive seven of them being music awards.
