The U11 girls had an exciting afternoon at the IAPS regional qualifiers hosted at Glenalmond. The day kicked off with the girls getting their hair braided with ribbons by the fantastic Miss J, setting a fun tone for the tournament.
In a round-robin format, the team played all six competing teams, each match lasting six minutes each way. The girls aimed high, starting strong with three narrow 1-0 victories. The fourth match against St Mary’s was a tough challenge, but the team displayed resilience, securing a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
In the final two games, the girls found their scoring rhythm, achieving impressive wins that boosted their goal tally. They also had their first taste of short corners in attack, earning several opportunities that showcased their growing skills.
By the end of the round robin, the team found themselves tied for first place with St Mary’s, based on wins, draws, and goals scored. This led to an exciting showdown of running penalties. Emilie, Thandie, and Eleora stepped up to take the penalties, while Minty faced the challenge of defending the goal. Although the team put up a great fight, St Mary’s ultimately came out on top in this tense conclusion.
Overall, the girls demonstrated incredible enthusiasm, passion, and team spirit throughout the day. A brilliant 2nd place finish is an achievement everyone should be very proud of!
