Just before the end of term, on a sunny but chilly day, Team Eggscalibur made their way to Kinross to take part in the Scottish regional round of the UKRoC competition. They were once again the youngest of 9 teams, 4 of which were Durham RAF cadets.
Before the competition had even started, our boys had socialised with the other teams and had enormous fun with the VR headsets kindly provided by Aero Space Kinross. Having assembled their rocket without any adult intervention, Eggscalibur were the first team ready to compete and launch.Previous test launches had provided fantastic learning opportunities to improve our rocket resulting in a more stable launch and flight but unfortunately one of our parachutes detached from the main body.
On collection of the parts, this team decided they were not to be deterred and that they would try again. On further inspection of the rocket, it turned out that the motor and motor mount had fallen out and were now resting somewhere in a Kinross field! This team impressed us all with their resilience as they headed back to build a new internal support system and insert a new motor by themselves as adult intervention was not allowed. It was unfortunate that they did not make it to the next round but they showed true grit, problem solving and ingenuity.
Well done Team Eggscalibur!A huge thank you to everyone at LAB22 for all their support, encouragement and expertise in leading this project with our team.
