2nd XI v Craigclowan – Won by 65 Runs
It was a chilly afternoon and our captain, Tom won the toss and elected to bat. Our top scorer with the bat was Charlie with 17 from 20 balls who was retired (not out) to allow others a chance at the crease. The scoreboard was ticking over due to a few extras from Craigclowan but some of our batsmen played some very nice shots. Otis, Ramsay, Steven and Edo all scored boundaries but Will scored some nice single, running between the wickets well. We managed to reach 140 after our 20 overs which was a terrific score.
After tea, straight delivery from Nico dismissed their opener and Freddie took a great catch despite the glaring sun in his eyes after a good ball from Joshua. Their number 3 batsman came in and made a terrific 29 before running himself out. Joshua, Ramsay, Charlie and Tom all took a wicket to dismiss some more batsman to give us the victory by 65 runs. It was a little disappointing to concede 30 runs from extras but it is early days and more work on our new wicket and in the nets will help to bring this down.
There was no stand out Cargilfield player for our team today; however, with Craigclowan only having 10 players, our own Ned, who was called up to our squad as a 12th man filled in for them and performed brilliantly. He first of all caught Edo out before stepping up and dismissing Will, Maclean and Tom! Ned was therefore the deserved winner of the match ball and overall player of the match!
A bit of a rusty start in places, but a positive result and one we can build on. Well played, boys and a big pat on the back for coping with what were torrid conditions at times
