It was a simply stunning afternoon to be playing and umpiring cricket at Fettes. The home team put us into bat and after losing 3 early wickets, Edo and Charlie came in and built a really solid partnership, taking us from 22/3 to over 80/3 after some cracking shots and sensible calling. Both then fell on 30 and 29 but Ramsay contributed well with a useful 13 before we reached 107 all out with one ball remaining.
Fettes started really aggressively with a few boundaries on the large pitch but when the left handed Nico came in to bowl he took two wickets after drawing the ball in beautifully to the batsman. MacLean got his first wicket of the season and Ramsay bowled really nicely too, taking another.
At 55/5 however, complacency set in. We toiled in the field with some panicked overthrows and misfields allowing Fettes to creep back into the game. With them requiring just a run a ball and looking good, Fergus popped up with 3 wickets in his two overs to stifle their progress. Nico then took a key wicket in his final over before Tom and Alex, who opened the bowling, completed the 19th and 20th overs with some really straight deliveries and Fettes, who really had made a great go of it, came up short by 5 runs.
Another close game which is what everyone wants and another win for a great squad of boys who are thoroughly enjoying their cricket. Thank you to both teams for giving us a great match. Well done to Edo and Charlie for their batting partnership as they earned the men of the match award but Nico and Fergus were on great form with the ball in hand and deserve just as much praise.
