As the only B team at the festival, the boys knew they were probably going to be up against it for most of the afternoon.
Their first two matches were against St Mary’s Melrose and Merchiston. They made ground going up the pitch but weren’t quite able to turn attacking opportunities into tries, and found it tricky to manage the pace of some quick opponents who flew through the backline to score tries.
The third game was a little better, since the boys showed more intent in their tackling against Fettes but still were unable to score a try of their own. Against Loretto, the boys stepped up their game again and managed to touch down over the line for a try, narrowly losing the match 1-2. The boys were more alert and made better use of offloading to keep up the momentum. In the final match, Ardvreck overpowered the team but not before they managed to score a try, with Kyan touching it down.
The festival was a steep learning curve but a marvellous way to begin the season. A fantastic effort from all the boys.
