1st Girls beat Craigclowan!

An excellent start to the hockey season!

1st Hockey v Craigclowan Won 5-1

The 1sts had a great start to the season with a strong win at Craigclowan. We worked hard from the start and were quickly rewarded with a goal from Saphira. Saphira hung nicely near the goal throughout the match and the girls soon began to look for her early and play lovely balls through. Sophie worked Hard in midfield and after a few lovely hard wide shots, soon found the goal with a bullet of a strike. I was particularly pleased with our defence of Captain Ellie, Amelia and Emma who despite being put under pressure, stayed calm and looked to play the ball out of the danger area, time after time. Izzy and Sophie linked well in the second half and 2 further goals followed for Sophie; one from open play and one from a short corner. Amy nearly kept a clean sheet and she made some fine saves; her confidence grew as the game went on and she really rose to the occasion. Flora ran well in midfield and seemed to always be in a fantastic space. The girls tried to get the ball to her however didn’t always use her, and this is something we need to improve on; looking up early to pLay the ball wide so that the bell does the hard work, not us!

All in all it was a good start, but our targets this week will be to work on moving the ball round the pitch more strongly, to avoid placing ourselves under unnecessary pressure. Well done girls!
