U11 Girls come 3rd at Loretto tournament

We narrowly miss out on the Final!

Game 1 – Cargilfield v Loretto B (won 4-0)
With only 12 minutes a game the girls panicked slightly in their first game. The girls managed to get the ball into Loretto’s D quickly but they needed to be stronger with their hits to be successful in scoring goals. There was a few great saves by the Loretto goalie too. After about 7 minutes the girls settled into the game and started to score goals. Clemmie set up the goals nicely for Poppy and Katinka to score. Issy played well in defence, clearing the ball, but needed to calmly pass the ball and not panic.

Game 2 – Cargilfield v Cundall Manor (won 5-1)
Cundall Manor were very quick to score in the first few minutes of this game as Cargilfiled girls didn’t tackle. They learned from this experience and Katinka dribbled from centre pass scoring the next goal within seconds of the whistle being blown. This gave the girls the confidence to gain possession of the ball and score more goals throughout this game. Clara made an excellent tackle as Cundall Manor tried re-gain possession of the ball. Valentina made a great save in the last few minutes of the game as the opposition tried to score. The girls still need to be stronger in the D and score from the edge of the D.

Game 3 – Cargilfield v Ardvreck (won 4-0)
This was a stronger game for Cargilfield. Katinka dribbled from centre pass and scored early on in the game. Poppy tried being stronger in the D too, which paid off. However, the Ardvrreck goalie was really strong and made some excellent saves. There was some excellent passing in mid field between Clemmie and Clara. Josephine was playing confidently using the side of the pitch to her advantage. Cicley also moved around confidently in goals and saved a few great attempts by Ardvreck.

Cup Semi Final – Cargilfield v Gullane Hockey Club (lost 1-0)
Nerves got the better of the girls in this game. Gullane were a strong team and used their strength as soon as the whistle blew. They confidently dribbled down the pitch and scored. Cargilfield needed to be confident with tackling and communicate to one another. Cargilfield had several chances in the D to score but needed to be stronger with their hits to get a goal.

Plate Final – Cargilfield v Cundall Manor (1-1 – Won on Penalties)
Having played Cundall Manor in the tournament already, the girls went into their final game with slightly more confidence. However, they were tired after a long day, which did show at points in the match. Being strong in the D will be a key area that the girls will work on in training as they had several attempts at goals in the D. There was an element of panic in defence which led to Cundall Manor scoring their only goal. However, Valentina and Cicley both played brilliantly in the final game as goalies. A great team effort. Due to the draw, it came to running penalties to which Poppy, Katinka and Clemmie volunteered. They took this challenge on confidently and succesfully scored
