The 1st girls had an interesting match against Belhaven today. We had played Belhaven earlier in the term and had a comfortable win, so the girls were fairly confident that it would be an easy game. This turned out to be far from the case! We started off well and won a short corner early in the game after some good work from Sophie. We did not manage to score from this and the play quickly swung to the other end. The Belhaven girls looked hungry to score and their perseverance paid off as they scored mid-way through the first half. This rattled us a bit and we grew frustrated at times, making a couple of silly passes and generally not playing our usual structure. Half time could not come quickly enough to be honest, as the girls were needing a little direction and some reassurance that all would be well if we played our normal game.
Izzy was quick off the mark in the second half and her 3D skills came in to their own in the circle. This resulted in a goal from Izzy after a bit of a scramble at the goal keeper’s feet. Our head’s were up and we spent the majority of the second half attacking the Belhaven goal. Their keeper was in great form and saved many a shot. Sophie made a great break through and crossed the ball in to Saphira who nimbly scored. With the score at 2-1, I could see the girls relax a bit and our normal flowing hockey came back. Goals from Flora, Saphira and Izzy all brought the score line to a more realistic summary of the second half however mention must be made of Amy who saved quite a few shots on target from Belhaven.
