The girls travelled to Ardvreck this week for the annual Ardvreck Netball Tournament. In the past we have played in snow, rain, hail and glorious sunshine, and this year we were lucky to have a dry bright day, albeit a little blustery.
The matches were 5 minutes each way so not a lot of time to make any errors!
Our first match was against Craigclowan and in true Cargilfield style, we took a while to settle in to the game. The play was end to end with both teams making a few stray passes however we begun to find our form and our shooters steadied the ship and we pulled ahead of Craigclowan to win 7-5.
Our next match was against St Mary’s who we have won and lost to this season. I’m not quite sure what happened in this match but our performance here was perhaps the best I have seen all term! Our passes were slick and our movement off the ball was particularly good. Amelia in particular was a star and scored 7 out of 8 goals. Flora also stood out and intercepted practically every ball that came her way. An impressive team effort saw us win this match 8-3.
Our match against Fettes was always going to be tough but we dug deep and played well. We were very much in the match in the first half and with the score at 2-2 at half time, we knew there wasn’t going to be much in it. Sadly, a few stray passes were pounced on by Fettes and in the second half they pulled away and won 5-2, however this was another good game to watch.
Our pool results were enough to see us top the table and we played in a semi final against Kilgraston. Amy had her shooting hands on in this game and scored both our first half goals. We used our lob well in this match and out-foxed the Kilgraston girls with this tactic. Two further goals from Amelia was enough for us to win the match 4-2 and progress to the final.
The final against Belhaven couldn’t have been any closer and both teams played some lovely netball. The scoring went with the centre pass for the whole of the first half and as there was nothing to split the teams, we entered half time 4-3 down. A little bit of panic set in and we missed a couple of passes; Belhaven intercepted and scored which let them pull ahead to 5-3. We fought hard to get back in the match and a goal from Amelia brought the game back to 5-4 but we ran out of time and sadly lost the final. Well done to the Belhaven girls; a great match and it bodes well for an exciting match next week.
