2nd XI v Fettes
On a glorious day we had a very exciting game of cricket which came down to the last over. Our total of 109 seemed like it might be plenty after Fettes only scored 38 after 10 overs but with some courageous batting and running between the wickets, they made it to 102 at the end, just coming up short.
Finn and Ned opened the batting with some assured shots but fell to some straight deliveries which they tried to slog. Ramsay and Tom put on a good partnership of 25 and Ramsay was unlucky that the ball took a wicked deflection off his bat onto the stumps. Tom batted extremely sensibly and although he made just 16 in 45 balls, the shots he played were tremendous and he supported his batting partners at the other end very well.
Our winning total was reached thanks to a great partnership of Ollie and Alexander who played some competent shots and ran between the wickets well. Top fielding moments came from Ned taking a great catch at backward square leg and Tom also took a difficult catch at mid-on looking into the lowering sun. Maclean was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets for 12 runs in his 3 overs.
Man of the match was Tom for his batting and superb catch.
In general, our fielding was a little lazy at times and you could hear the panic in the field as Fettes crept ever closer to their target. We need to sharpen up for the weekend when we welcome Belhaven on Saturday but if our batting is assured and sensible as it was today, it should be a great game. Well played boys!
