A narrow win for 3rd girls!

Great hockey in the sunshine!

Cargilfield 3rds 3    Craigclowan 2

In beautiful sunshine, the 3rd Girls’ Hockey Team played in an exciting end to end game with evenly matched teams.Having gone one nil down the girls showed great determination and resilience to come back and play some excellent hockey. Josephine was strong in midfield and linked the defense up well with the attack. Up front, Georgia capitalizedon a rebound from Josephine’s shot to get us back level. At the back, Charlotte was composed under pressure andmade sensible choices with her passing from deep. Bethany in the first half supported her well until her move into left midfield for the second where she battled hard against their superb right winger. Having had an impressive first half up front, Matilda was tremendous in defense in the second half and cleared the ball without hesitation when there was danger. Rose found a lot of space in midfield and made some great reverse pickups from the balls out of defense. She played a part in the second goal with a pass out to Josephine who struck high into the net giving their impressive goalie no chance. Emma was up front in the second half and found lots of space around the penalty spot. There were a few chances but nothing would go in on the right side of the post but she kept going. We sat back a bit and were tiring and this allowed Craigclowan to equalize with just a few minutes remaining. Ruby played in goal and made quite a few saves to keep out Craigclowan from taking the lead again. With just seconds remaining in a tight contest, Rose picked the ball up superbly and fed it to Josephine who fed Georgia and she had the composure to slot it into the back of the net to win the game. It would be tricky to pick an overall player of the match as it was a great team performance with everyone showing excellent spirit and sportsmanship; however, Josephine showed some great skill and had to cover a large area of the pitch in her role.
